22 Jul 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Reuters. Australia-headquartered AVZ Minerals accuses the DRC of breaching an international arbitration order by signing a deal with United States (US)-backed KoBold Metals to develop part of the contested Manono lithium project;

22 Jul 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Clashes over traditional gold mining in the border areas of the Gambella and Southwest Ethiopia regions leave more than 10 people dead and over 10 wounded;

22 Jul 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) DW. Nairobi court charges prominent activist Boniface Mwangi with unlawful possession of ammunition and frees him on bond in a case stemming from his alleged role in anti-government protests;

22 Jul 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) The East African. International Finance Corporation (IFC) raises $17m through Rwanda’s second Umuganda bond, issued on the Rwanda Stock Exchange;

21 Jul 2025 Asmara (Eritrea) Africa News. President Isaias Afwerki warns Ethiopia against provoking renewed conflict, citing rising regional tensions and Ethiopia’s push for seaport access;

21 Jul 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. Former Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza takes control of the opposition Umoja na Maendeleo (UMP) party and appoints her husband, son and sister to key leadership positions, prompting debate;

21 Jul 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Reuters. Australia-headquartered BHP sells its interest in the $942m Kabanga nickel project to its partner Lifezone Metals for approximately $83m;

21 Jul 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) Business Insider Africa. United States (US) Department of State adds Rwanda to its travel advisory list with a Level 2 warning due to security risks near its western border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), specifically in districts like Rusizi and Rubavu;

20 Jul 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Al Jazeera. Representatives of the DRC and the Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group sign a declaration in Qatar to end ongoing fighting in eastern DRC;

19 Jul 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Development partners sign a $55.6m agreement to boost Tanzania’s Health Basket Fund for the 2025/26 fiscal year, aimed at strengthening the healthcare system;

18 Jul 2025 Bujumbura (Burundi) Africa News. African Union (AU) chair, Angola’s President João Lourenço, appoints President Évariste Ndayishimiye as the AU’s special envoy for the Sahel, tasked with promoting dialogue and peace in Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, which face jihadist threats and are suspended from the AU due to unconstitutional government changes;

17 Jul 2025 Gitega (Burundi) Burundi Times. COMEBU, a privately owned Burundian company, receives the exclusive legal authorisation to exploit and commercially operate mineral resources in specific areas;

17 Jul 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) APA News. African Development Bank approves $189.49m for the Energy Sector Result-Based Financing (RBF II) Programme which aims to modernise Rwanda’s electricity network, expand access to on- and off-grid energy and clean cooking, and strengthen institutional capacity;

17 Jul 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Government introduces new income tax reforms that increase taxes on low-income earners, including those living at or near the poverty line of about $2 a day;

17 Jul 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. Police arrest Naivasha member of parliament (MP) Jayne Kihara, with detectives blocking journalists and the public from accessing her residence;

17 Jul 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzania launches its Development Vision 2050 in Dodoma, with development partners pledging support for its implementation and United Nations resident coordinator Susan Ngongi Namondo praising the government’s inclusive and consultative approach in crafting the long-term plan;

16 Jul 2025 Asmara (Eritrea) Yemen Online. Eritrea releases 29 Yemeni fishermen who were detained for several days after being apprehended in disputed Red Sea waters;
