1 Apr 2026 Bujumbura (Burundi) AP News. Explosions and a large fire at a military camp in Bujumbura cause widespread panic and civilian evacuations, with the army clarifying that an electrical fault in the ammunition storage room triggered the incident rather than an enemy attack;

31 Mar 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) All Africa. M23 rebel group alleges that drone attacks by Congolese armed forces between 29 and 30 March killed seven civilians and injured more than 20 others in the Minembwe highlands;

31 Mar 2026 Kigali (Rwanda) The Wall Street Journal. Rwanda is threatening to withdraw its troops from Mozambique, where they have protected a major ExxonMobil natural-gas project from Islamic State militants for five years, following new US sanctions announced on 31 March targeting Rwandan military officials over alleged support to M23 rebels in eastern DRC;

31 Mar 2026 Kigali (Rwanda) Ecofin Agency. Recent United States (US) sanctions against the Rwandan military threaten vital funding flows, making the country’s future fiscal stability dependent on meeting troop withdrawal deadlines set by the Washington Accords, according to analysts cited by the International Crisis Group;

31 Mar 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. The first session of the 13th Parliament is postponed following the death of former minister William Lukuvi;

31 Mar 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Bank of Tanzania (central bank) suspends its gold sale plan following a decline in market prices, aiming to protect the value of national reserves until market conditions become more favourable for liquidation;

31 Mar 2026 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Government reassures the public of a stable fuel supply despite rising global anxieties surrounding the Middle East conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz;

30 Mar 2026 Djibouti (Djibouti) World Bank Group. The World Bank Group approves a $25.75m grant to support Djibouti’s economic diversification, focusing on private sector growth, SME competitiveness, and reforms to state-owned enterprises through a results-based financing model;

30 Mar 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) Monitor. M23 rebel group announces a strategic rotation involving a series of surprise pullouts from their positions in the North and South Kivu provinces;

30 Mar 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Addis Standard. Authorities, including Petroleum and Energy Authority (PEA) and the transport and logistics ministry, implement drastic fuel-saving measures, including remote work directives and mandatory leave for non-essential staff, to manage a severe energy crisis exacerbated by regional conflicts and internal corruption;

30 Mar 2026 Kigali (Rwanda) Reuters.  Congolese army launches a disarmament operation against the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), a militia linked to the 1994 Rwandan genocide, marking a critical step in a United States (US)-brokered peace deal;

30 Mar 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The CitizenUnited States-headquartered credit ratings agency Fitch Ratings affirms that Tanzania maintains its B+ credit rating with a stable outlook, signalling continued confidence in the country’s economic management and fiscal stability;

27 Mar 2026 Djibouti (Djibouti) AP News. International Organization for Migration reports that a boat carrying over 300 migrants capsized off the coast of Obock en route to Yemen, leaving at least nine dead and 45 missing;

26 Mar 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. Auditor general Nancy Gathungu reports that a sophisticated tax evasion syndicate stole approximately 24 million excise stamps from a high-security vault at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) headquarters in the year to June 2025;

26 Mar 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. The African Union appoints former president Jakaya Kikwete as its high representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea;
