28 Apr 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Addis Standard. An Ethiopian embassy official in Pretoria (South Africa) says the latest violence that saw four Ethiopian nationals killed in recent shootings in Johannesburg (South Africa) amid rising xenophobic tensions is part of a disturbing and escalating trend;

28 Apr 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) BBC. President William Ruto walks back recent remarks that mocked the Nigerian accent, claiming his comments were taken out of context and intended as a private joke about the excellent variety of English across Africa;

28 Apr 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. An investigation into post-election violence in Tanzania reveals that the unrest was fuelled by 16 coordinated tactics, including reports that individuals were paid to incite conflict;

27 Apr 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) La Prosperite. French member of parliament Aurélien Taché meets with the DRC National Assembly’s External Relations Committee in Kinshasa to advocate for a renewed partnership centered on the Francophonie;

27 Apr 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) Al Jazeera. The Inspection générale des mines (IGM) (general inspectorate of mines) announces that DRC is establishing a $100m paramilitary mining guard, backed by the United States and United Arab Emirates, to secure mineral exploitation and transport across 22 provinces by 2028;

27 Apr 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) BorkenaSouth Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Ethiopia’s prime minister, Abiy Ahmed, meet in Addis Ababa to fast-track bilateral agreements focused on economic integration, regional security and infrastructure;

27 Apr 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Energy minister Deogratius Ndejembi announces that Tanzania is prioritising the development of its natural gas sector to navigate global fuel price volatility and reshape its position in the energy market;

26 Apr 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. The World Bank outlines three primary policy hurdles that Kenya must address to unlock a $750m Development Policy Operations (DPO) loan intended to support fiscal stability and green growth;

24 Apr 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia announces that over 50.5 million voters have registered for the upcoming 7th General Election scheduled for 1 June, although figures from special districts such as displacement camps are still pending;

24 Apr 2025 Gitega (Burundi) Morning Star. Thousands of Congolese refugees have begun returning home from Burundi’s Busuma camp following the withdrawal of Rwandan-backed M23 rebels from the strategic town of Uvira;

23 Apr 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Retired justice Mohamed Chande Othman presents a commission report revealing that 518 people were killed in violence related to the October 2025 general election;

20 Apr 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) BBC. A joint military operation by Ugandan and Congolese forces successfully rescues more than 200 civilians from a camp controlled by the Islamic State-linked Allied Democratic Forces (ADF);
