30 Jun 2026 Kigali (Rwanda) Kigali Today. Rwanda and the Russian state nuclear corporation, Rosatom, sign a memorandum of understanding to develop a nuclear energy project utilising Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), aiming to integrate nuclear power into Rwanda’s energy mix by the early 2030s to achieve electricity self-sufficiency;

30 Jun 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) The Africa Report. DRC takes over the United Nations (UN) Security Council presidency from 1 July, planning to use the platform to press for the withdrawal of Rwandan forces from eastern DRC;

30 Jun 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. International human rights and legal organisations formally request the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate senior officials from several countries, including Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for alleged complicity in Sudan‘s war;

30 Jun 2026 Kigali (Rwanda) Kigali Today. Government announces it will launch a new programme in August to import petroleum products through a government-to-government agreement with Oman‘s OQ Trading, aiming to lower domestic fuel prices and enhance energy security by reducing reliance on private trading companies in Kenya and Tanzania;

30 Jun 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily NationWorld Bank approves a $750m budget support loan for Kenya and a sustainability-linked facility that will reduce the country’s reliance on expensive domestic debt and bolster economic reforms;

30 Jun 2026 Antananarivo (Madagascar) L’Express. The military-led government rejects a Southern African Development Community (SADC) communication calling for the release of political prisoners and the return of political exiles;

30 Jun 2026 Kigali (Rwanda) Kigali Today. During recent talks with the United Nations (UN) Human Rights representative for Burundi, Rwanda calls on Burundi to halt its direct military involvement in the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC);

29 Jun 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. The European Union (EU) delegation to Ethiopia condemns the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) for breaching articles of the Pretoria peace agreement signed in November 2022 by establishing a parallel regional council and enforcing compulsory military conscription;

29 Jun 2026 Kampala (Uganda) BBC. Army chief General Muhoozi Kainerugaba orders the shutdown of Uganda’s leading independent media outlets, including the Daily Monitor and NTV;

27 Jun 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) BBC. The DRC files a case against Rwanda at the International Court of Justice, accusing Rwanda of backing armed groups and deploying forces for unlawful military operations in eastern DRC;

27 Jun 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) BorkenaUnited States (US) ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga cancels a planned trip to the Tigray Region, where he was expected to meet with rival political figures amid rising local tensions, a week after the US sanctioned various Tigrayan leaders;

27 Jun 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) Al JazeeraAmnesty International Kenya reports six activists who went missing after police arrested them during a memorial gathering have been found “dumped” in various parts of Nairobi, with the activists alleging they were severely beaten and tortured while in police custody;

25 Jun 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) Daily Nation. The DRC implements stricter travel regulations following confirmation that an Ebola case from the country has reached France;

25 Jun 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) BorkenaEthiopian National Defense Force claims to have killed 230 Fano rebel fighters, including several top logistical and operational leaders, during an operation in the Amhara Region;

25 Jun 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) Al Jazeera. Police deploy tear gas, set up roadblocks and arrest more than 350 people during demonstrations marking the second anniversary of the deadly 2024 anti-finance bill protests;

25 Jun 2026 Kigali (Rwanda) MonitorUnited States (US) imposes sanctions on Gasabo Gold Refinery and three other Rwandan mining companies, accusing them of laundering and smuggling minerals out of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and supporting M23 rebels;

25 Jun 2026 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Uganda and Tanzania are set to begin construction on a 298km transmission line that will link the two countries and strengthen regional electricity trade;
