15 Jul 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Business Human Rights. Labour and social protection cabinet secretary Alfred Mutua announces that the government has launched a multi-agency task force to crack down on fake foreign job agents defrauding citizens with false promises of overseas employment;

15 Jul 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The CitizenSomalia’s ambassador to Tanzania Ilyas Ali Hassan says that ties between the two are continuing to grow following the re-opening of Somalia’s embassy in Dar es Salaam and the signing of nine new bilateral agreements;

15 Jul 2025 Gitega (Burundi) IPP Media. Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Zonal Referral Hospital launches a two-week specialist medical outreach in Burundi, offering advanced surgeries and treatments in partnership with local hospitals;

14 Jul 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) BorkenaBank of Russia (central bank) adds the Ethiopian birr to its currency exchange list, with the current rate at about 0.57 ruble per 1 birr;

14 Jul 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Opposition parties Chadema and the Alliance for Change and Transparency are targeting former members and rejected aspirants of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party to weaken CCM’s internal unity, attract disaffected politicians, and boost their own chances ahead of Tanzania’s upcoming nomination deadline;

14 Jul 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzania’s ambassador to CubaHumphrey Polepole, resigns from his post, citing concerns over the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi’s (CCM) leadership direction;

13 Jul 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) IGAD. Intergovernmental Authority on Development, supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), conducts a field mission to Djibouti to assess key blue economy sectors including ports, tourism, salt extraction, seafood production and fibre optics to document successful practices for regional replication, guide investment planning and advance sustainable blue growth in the region;

12 Jul 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. The Türkiye-brokered Ethiopia-Somalia deal, aimed at easing tensions and securing Ethiopia’s access to the sea, appears to have collapsed after Somalia rejects anything beyond commercial port access;

12 Jul 2025 Asmara (Eritrea) Hiiraan. Egypt and Eritrea reaffirm their commitment to strengthening political and security cooperation, following a high-level phone call between their foreign ministers after Egypt pledged increased military support to Somalia;

12 Jul 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) BorkenaFano militia claim to have killed 280 government soldiers and captured 25 others, including two commanders, during clashes in Wollega Zone (Oromia Region) over three days;

12 Jul 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The CitizenTanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) director general, Gilead Teri, reveals that India-Tanzania trade reached $8.6 billion in the 2024/25 financial year;

12 Jul 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. The dfcu Bank Uganda reports a sharp rise in profitability, posting net profits of UGX 72.1 billion ($18.9m) for the financial year ending 31 December 2024;

11 Jul 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) World Bank Group. World Bank approves a $2.97m grant, financed by the Japanese Social Development Fund, to improve care and educational opportunities for children with disabilities in Djibouti;

11 Jul 2025 Gitega (Burundi) Africa Intelligence. Despite being excluded from the African Union’s new peacekeeping mission in Somalia, Burundian troops remain stationed in Middle Shabelle and appear likely to extend their deployment;

10 Jul 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) Mining Weekly. United Kingdom-headquartered Aterian PLC confirms high-grade lithium mineralisation at its HCK Project in Rwanda, a promising development for the country’s emerging critical minerals sector;

10 Jul 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) The East African. Rwanda secures $18m in funding for climate resilience projects across six districts, as part of the Green Amayaga Initiative;

10 Jul 2025 Asmara (Eritrea) APA News. Three dams have been constructed in the Mai-Mne Subregion at a cost of $1.33m, jointly implemented by the regional administration and defence forces;

10 Jul 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) La Prosperite. Dieudonné Kamuleta Badibanga is re-elected as constitutional court president for another three-year term;

10 Jul 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Foreign affairs ministry holds a key consultation with the diplomatic community to mobilise climate finance and technical support ahead of the Second Africa Climate Summit, set to be held between 8-10 September in Addis Ababa;

10 Jul 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. Members of parliament call for an audit of state-owned Kenya Power‘s electricity meter systems, citing widespread concerns over faulty meters, sparking public dissatisfaction and prompting lawmakers to demand greater accountability from the utility provider;

10 Jul 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Deputy prime minister, Doto Biteko, inspects the Kinyerezi Power Complex in Dar es Salaam as part of Tanzania’s efforts to revive the Kinyerezi III power project and boost electricity generation capacity;

10 Jul 2025 Kampala (Uganda) The East African. Uganda re-opens the IshashaBunagana and Busanza border crossings with eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), including those near areas the M23 rebel group controls;

10 Jul 2025 Gitega (Burundi) Africa Intelligence. After the June legislative elections, President Évariste Ndayishimiye strengthens his grip on power by ensuring that close allies enter the National Assembly, reinforcing his faction within the ruling Conseil National pour la Défense de la Démocratie – Forces pour la Défense de la Démocratie;
