Opposition Azimio coalition leader Raila Odinga urges Kenyans to lobby their elected leaders in parliament to reject the 2023 Finance Bill;16 May 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Many stores in Dar es Salaam’s Kariakoo business hub remain closed due to a strike by traders calling for the removal of levies imposed and collected by the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA);15 May 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily MonitorDairy Development Authority executive director Samson Akankiza reports that Kenyan authorities have reduced issuing export permits to Uganda’s powdered milk by about 20%;15 May 2023 Mogadishu (Somalia) The East AfricanKenya‘s Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and his Somalia counterpart, Mohamed Ahmed Sheikh Ali, announce in a joint statement that their recent discussions revolved around the need for shared cross-border intelligence and enhancement of law enforcement capacity to man the borders;15 May 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Civilians and various organisations protest against Uganda banning LGBTQ rights at the United Nations Information Centre, claiming that the current legislation is the culmination of more than a decade of collaboration between Ugandan elite interest groups and United States conservatives;10 May 2023 Kinshasa (DRC) La Prosperité. The European Union responds favorably to DRC’s official invitation to deploy a European election observation mission, with an exploratory mission set to arrive in Kinshasa in early June to meet with the Commission electorale nationale independante (CENI) and relevant national and international stakeholders;10 May 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzania and the Netherlands agree to work together to strengthen electronic certification (E-cert) for sanitary and phytosanitary processes in the Tanzanian horticultural sector;10 May 2023 Kampala (Uganda) ChimpReports.
