16 Dec 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) La Prosperite. Opposition leader Martin Fayulu criticises the 4 December agreement between President Félix Tshisekedi and Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, arguing it favours Rwanda, and calls for strict enforcement of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2773 to end violence in eastern DRC;

16 Dec 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. United States (US) announces it is ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ethiopians residing in the US, saying conditions in Ethiopia no longer pose a serious threat to returning nationals;

16 Dec 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. Kenya signs a Sh40 billion ($308m) deal with Morocco-headquartered African fund, Africa50, and Power Grid Corporation of India to develop power lines, including the Suswa Substation in Narok County, aiming to boost the electricity transmission infrastructure;

16 Dec 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) Reuters. Rwanda-backed M23 rebels agree to withdraw from Uvira (Democratic Republic of Congo) at the request of the United States;

16 Dec 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzania is actively seeking to strengthen its ties with the United States (US) with foreign affairs minister Mahmoud Thabit embarking on an official working visit, which comes after the US’ announcement that it would be reviewing ties with Tanzania amid concerns including obstacles to US investment and violence against civilians;

16 Dec 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) executive director Samuel Were Wandera announces the tightening of measures against illegal cash flows ahead of the 2026 general elections, targeting money laundering and illicit financial activities that could be used to influence political campaigns;

15 Dec 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) Dawn Africa. Parliament begins reviewing the draft National Budget Bill for 2026, with a proposed budget of DJF 153 billion ($865m), marking a 5% increase from 2025;

15 Dec 2025 Bujumbura (Burundi) Reuters. Rwanda-backed M23 rebels capture hundreds of Burundian soldiers during their latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), calling for all Burundian forces to leave the region;

14 Dec 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) EWN. United States secretary of state Marco Rubio says Rwanda has clearly violated the peace agreement it signed with DRC on 4 December, vowing action in response;

13 Dec 2025 Asmara (Eritrea) Africanews. Eritrea announces its withdrawal from the East African regional bloc Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), citing the organisation’s failure to uphold its founding principles and contribute to regional stability;

12 Dec 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) AfDB. African Development Fund (AfDB) approves a $21m grant to upgrade Djibouti’s urban infrastructure, including seven kilometres of roads and drainage systems, and to enhance climate resilience using nature-based solutions;

12 Dec 2025 Asmara (Eritrea) AA. United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres urges Eritrea and Ethiopia to recommit to the treaty that formally ended their 1998–2000 border war and uphold sovereignty, territorial integrity, and lasting peace;

12 Dec 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) Africanews. Collective of Civil Parties for Rwanda (CPCR) files a complaint against Banque de France (central bank), alleging it facilitated financial transfers to the National Bank of Rwanda during the 1994 Tutsi genocide, potentially enabling the genocidal regime;

12 Dec 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. State minister in the president’s office for public service management, Ridhiwani Kikwete, launches a nationwide public service audit aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, and good governance across government institutions;

12 Dec 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) Reuters. United States (US) accuses Rwanda of fuelling instability and directing the M23 rebel group in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, threatening to derail US-brokered peace efforts;

11 Dec 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) BorkenaChina’s special envoy to the Horn of Africa, ambassador Hu Changchun, visits Ethiopia to meet with foreign affairs minister, Gedion Timotheos, and discuss strengthening diplomatic and economic ties;

11 Dec 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) BBC. A Kenyan court temporarily suspends a $2.5 billion United States–Kenya health aid deal amid concerns that it could allow the transfer or sharing of sensitive personal medical data;

11 Dec 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) files a case with the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) against the Tanzanian government, challenging its decision to suspend internet in the country from 29 October to 4 November;

11 Dec 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Permanent secretary in the finance ministry and treasury secretary, Ramathan Goobi, launches a major reform programme, PIM PLUS, aimed at overhauling how the government plans and manages public investments to reduce fiscal waste and improve efficiency in public procurement;

11 Dec 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) Reuters. M23 rebels enter Uvira (Democratic Republic of Congo) (DRC), escalating violence despite a recent United States (US)-brokered peace deal between DRC and Rwanda;

11 Dec 2025 Bujumbura (Burundi) Africanews. Thousands of Congolese refugees are fleeing fighting between M23 rebels and the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s (DRC) armed forces, with 40,000 new arrivals recorded in Burundi between 5 and 11 December;
