17 Jun 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Al Jazeera. The African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) and the United Nations Panel of Experts on the DRC raise concerns about Uganda‘s expanding military presence in eastern DRC and possible ulterior motives beyond combating the ADF rebel group;

17 Jun 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Ambassador Binalf Andualem holds his first official meeting with United States president Donald Trump at the White House, marking the beginning of his diplomatic tenure;

17 Jun 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. President William Ruto’s loyalists in Mt Kenya express concern ahead of the 2027 elections, amid fears of rebellion, political tensions and protests in other parts of Kenya;

17 Jun 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) The Independent. The United States (US) administration issues an ultimatum to 36 countries—25 of them in Africa, including Djibouti—to improve travel vetting systems or risk being added to the US travel ban list;

17 Jun 2025 Gitega (Burundi) Burundi Times. The World Bank reports that foreign direct investment (FDI) into East African countries, including Burundi, has fallen to its lowest level in nearly two decades;

16 Jun 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. The United States (US) government is reportedly planning to impose visa bans on 36 additional countries, including Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda as part of an expanded immigration and national security effort;

16 Jun 2025 Antananarivo (Madagascar) L’Express. Economy and finance minister Rindra Hasimbelo Rabarinirinarison reports that Madagascar is reforming its state treasury management by adopting a new law to centralise cash management into a single common Treasury fund;

12 Jun 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Mining Review. DRC Mining Week 2025 continues in Kinshasa, aimed at promoting DRC as a global mining leader;

12 Jun 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Prime minister Abiy Ahmed alleges that 60% of the country’s instability is fuelled by wealthy individuals supporting armed groups but does not provide evidence to substantiate this claim;

12 Jun 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. Kenyans continue protesting against the death of Albert Ojwang in police custody, resulting in the destruction of properties in Nairobi’s Central Business District, reflecting growing public anger over the incident;

12 Jun 2025 Kigali (RwandaClub of Mozambique. Finance and economic planning ministry reports the budget details for the 2025/26 fiscal year, highlighting that Rwanda plans to increase its fiscal spending by 21% to RWF 7 trillion ($5 billion) in the next year;

12 Jun 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Finance minister Mwigulu Nchemba proposes a TSh 56.49 trillion ($22.03 billion) budget for the 2025/26 fiscal year, with TSh 40.47 trillion ($15.78 billion) expected from domestic revenue and the rest from foreign grants and loans;

12 Jun 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Finance minister Matia Kasaija presents the 2025/26 national budget, totalling USh72.3 trillion ($19.3 billion), amid concerns about the country’s rising debt burden;

12 Jun 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) Al JazeeraInternational Organization for Migration reports that eight refugees and migrants died and 22 went missing after smugglers forced them off a boat near Djibouti, making them swim to shore;
