20 Jan 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) Reuters. The DRC offers the United States (US) a vetted shortlist of state-owned manganese, copper-cobalt, gold and lithium assets for potential US investment under a minerals partnership aimed at reducing US reliance on China;

20 Jan 2026 Uvira (DRC) AP News. Soldiers and pro-government Wazalendo militia fighters re-enter Uvira after Rwanda-backed M23 rebels’ withdrawal, despite continued sporadic gunfire and ongoing fighting in the region;

20 Jan 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Addis Insight. Justice ministry orders banks to freeze the accounts of ten major payment gateways, including Chapa Pay and YagoutPay, and submit full financial records as part of investigations into suspected tax evasion and money laundering;

20 Jan 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. State-owned utility Kenya Power delays 16,588 electricity connection projects, leaving thousands of consumers without access and undermining the country’s universal electrification goals;

20 Jan 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Energy minister, Deogratius Ndejembi, notes that Tanzania has invested TSh 280 billion ($119m) in multiple electricity projects to ensure a reliable power supply in Dar es Salaam;

20 Jan 2026 Kampala (Uganda) Reuters. Uganda People’s Defence Force chief of defence forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba gives opposition leader Bobi Wine 48-hours to surrender following allegations of election fraud, threatening to treat him as an outlaw, while at least 118 members of Wine’s party face election-related charges;

20 Jan 2026 Kampala (Uganda) Reuters. Bank of Uganda (central bank) announces that gold exports surged nearly 76% in 2025 to $5.8 billion, surpassing coffee as the country’s top export, driven by record global gold prices and new market entrants;

20 Jan 2026 Kampala (Uganda) AP News. Opposition leader Kizza Besigye’s health is reportedly deteriorating while he remains detained on politically charged treason allegations, prompting his party to demand unrestricted access to his doctors and family;

19 Jan 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. Authorities halt quarry operations run by a Chinese contractor after local villager’s lodge complaints over the project’s impact;

19 Jan 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. World Bank projects Tanzania’s economy will grow by 6.2% in 2026, reflecting continued positive macroeconomic momentum;

19 Jan 2026 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Voters in Uganda’s Kigezi (Western Region) vote out at least 10 incumbent MPs, including ministers David Bahati and Prossy Akampurira, in a major parliamentary shake-up;

18 Jan 2026 Djibouti (Djibouti) Capital Ethiopia. International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts strong economic growth for Djibouti, projecting 6.5% growth in 2025 and stable medium-term expansion around 6%, driven largely by Ethiopia’s rapidly expanding market and joint infrastructure projects that boost demand for Djibouti’s port services;

16 Jan 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) BorkenaInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) completes the fourth review of Ethiopia’s $3.4 billion financial programme, unlocking a disbursement of $261m to support ongoing economic reforms and debt restructuring;

16 Jan 2026 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Electoral commission declares President Yoweri Museveni as the winner of the presidential election, with 71.6% of the vote, following by opposition leader Bobi Wine, who won 24%;

15 Jan 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) Africa News. Kenya secures a preliminary deal with China allowing 98.2% of its exports, particularly agricultural goods, to enter China duty-free;

15 Jan 2026 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Preliminary results show incumbent President Yoweri Museveni of the ruling party National Resistance Movement (NRM) leads with 61.7% of the 23,049 votes counted so far, while challenger Robert Kyagulanyi (also known as Bobi Wine) of the opposition party National Unity Platform (NUP) has 33.64%;
