22 May 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Xinhua. Government announces that the economy is on track to grow 7.9% in the current Ethiopian 2023/2024 financial year which began on 8 July 2023;

22 May 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) The Africa Report. Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) CEO Joe Sang says a deal with Rwanda for it to import its oil via Mombasa port, and not Tanzania, could be finalised in the coming months;

22 May 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The East African. State-run National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) signs an agreement with Democratic Republic Congo’s (DRC) Quincy Company to sell 500,000 tonnes of maize to DRC;

20 May 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) CAJ News. Djibouti sovereign fund and Netherlands-headquartered Paix Data Centres sign a joint venture agreement to open a data centre in 2026;

20 May 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) EBC. Prime minister Abiy Ahmed shuffles his cabinet, notably dropping defence minister Abraham Belay;

20 May 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Business Daily. Kenya National Bureau of Statistics officials confirm the economy grew by 5.6% in 2023, up from 4.9% in 2022, driven by strong performance in the agriculture sector;

20 May 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Africanews. President William Ruto arrives in the United States (US) for a four-day state visit and is set to meet his counterpart, Joe Biden, on Thursday;

20 May 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) VOA. Rwanda will deploy an additional 2,500 soldiers to Mozambique to help contain a resurgence in militant attacks;

20 May 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. British International Investment (BII) signs a $30m financing agreement with TowerCo of Africa Tanzania for the construction of 200 additional telecommunication sites throughout Tanzania;

19 May 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) BBC. Army spokesperson Brigadier General Sylvain Ekenge says the army stopped a coup attempt early on Sunday morning, arresting 50 suspects including three United States citizens;

19 May 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Reuters. Uganda People’s Defence Forces says it has captured a bomb expert commander of the Islamic Stated-allied Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) while carrying out an operation in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC);

18 May 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Local sources report renewed fighting between government forces and rebels in Amhara region;

18 May 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) reaches a staff-level agreement with authorities, recommending the executive board approve a $150m disbursement;

17 May 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) News24. United States-headquartered Human Rights Watch (HRW) says Rwanda deported a senior researcher upon arrival in Kigali on 13 May;

16 May 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) AP. Ethiopia lodges a complaint with the United States (US) over the recent speech of its ambassador, Ervin Massinga, calling for the release of political prisoners, saying it contained allegations and unsolicited advice;

16 May 2024 Kampala (Uganda) The Africa Report. President Yoweri Museveni has tasked the attorney general with examining the legality of the United Kingdom’s sanctions imposed on speaker of parliament, Anita Among, stating that the corruption allegations to which she is tied are an internal matter;

16 May 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen.  Indian High Commission holds talks with Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) officials the government’s plans to auction oil and gas blocks this year;

15 May 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) BNA. President Ismail Omar Guelleh arrives in Bahrain to take part in the 33rd Arab Summit;

15 May 2024 Asmara (Eritrea) Tesfa News. The second round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between Eritrea and India on bilateral cooperation takes place;

15 May 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. The first-ever high-level Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa, co-chaired by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Paris (France) on 14 May, mobilises $2.2 billion to support the provision of clean cooking access in Africa;

15 May 2024 Kampala (Uganda) The East African. President Yoweri Museveni arrives in Kenya for a three-day state visit during which he will meet his counterpart, William Ruto;
