23 Aug 2022 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Reuters. Finance ministry official Brook Taye says Ethiopia expects an International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission in September, following a visit by the fund three months ago, noting that an IMF programme is necessary to restructure its debt;

23 Aug 2022 Gichugu (Kenya) Daily Nation. Election official Geoffrey Gitobu who oversaw elections in Gichugu constituency, Kirinyaga county in central Kenya, in the just-ended elections collapses and dies on 22 August;

23 Aug 2022 Kericho (Kenya) Business Insider. Group of Kenyans sues UK government before the European Court of Human Rights, accusing it of colonial-era land grabs and other crimes in Kericho county;

22 Aug 2022 Nairobi (Kenya) Nation. Opposition leader Raila Odinga challenges the presidential election results in the Supreme Court, alleging the tally involved “criminality“;

22 Aug 2022 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The EastAfrican. Tanzania holds census with eye on 2025 election;

22 Aug 2022 Kampala (Uganda) Reuters. Uganda Coffee Development Authority says coffee exports dropped 17.7% in July compared to the same month last year, hurt by a prolonged drought that depressed yields across the country;

22 Aug 2022 Kampala (Uganda) Reuters. Uganda‘s sole power distributor Umeme Limited‘s half-year pretax profit jumped 33%, helped by a surge in energy sales across all categories of customers and a drop in its operating costs;

22 Aug 2022 Bujumbura (Burundi) AP. Colonel Floribert Biyereke says Burundi has deployed soldiers to eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo as the first part of a recently created East African Community regional force to respond to crises;

21 Aug 2022 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The EastAfrican. Tanzania invites bids for the construction of the 367km Uvinza-Gitega line that will extend the Standard Gauge Railway to Burundi;

18 Aug 2022 London (United Kingdom) Business Daily. UK opens new bilateral trade deals with 65 developing countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and South Sudan, that cuts import taxes on hundreds of products despite being lower middle-income economies;

18 Aug 2022 Nairobi (Kenya) Nation. Deputy president-elect Rigathi Gachagua says president-elect William Ruto will be sworn-in with or without the presence of President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has not pronounced himself on the ceremony;

17 Aug 2022 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. President-elect William Ruto says there is no time to waste in tackling an economic crisis, as defeated rival Raila Odinga prepares a legal challenge to overturn his loss in the 9 August election.
