7 Jul 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) La Prosperite. The World Bank reaffirms its partnership with the DRC through a financial commitment of nearly $8 billion across 24 active development projects;

7 Jul 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) ReutersNigeria‘s Dangote Group plans to finance a proposed 700,000-barrel-per-day oil refinery on Kenya’s Lamu Island, using a combination of internal cash flow, bonds and an initial public offering;

7 Jul 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Africanews. Tanzanian authorities arrest dozens of people and significantly tighten security to prevent planned anti-government protests demanding political reforms;

6 Jul 2026 Kigali (Rwanda) Kigali Today. President Paul Kagame is appointed co-chair of the International Commission on Artificial Intelligence, established by the United Nations (UN) through the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to promote responsible AI development and access;

6 Jul 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) Al Jazeera. United States (US) imposes sanctions on several Rwandan businessmen and mining companies accused of financing the M23 rebellion through the illicit smuggling of conflict minerals from the DRC;

6 Jul 2026 Kigali (Rwanda) Kigali Today. The M23 rebel movement states that it remains rooted in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and accuses the government in Kinshasa of targeting certain communities and cooperating with armed groups;

6 Jul 2026 Antananarivo (Madagascar) L’Express. President Michaël Randrianirina denounces recent security incidents, including a drone tracking his convoy, as a political conspiracy orchestrated from abroad to create a climate of fear;

6 Jul 2026 Kigali (Rwanda) Kigali Today. Rwanda and Israel sign new agreements to strengthen cooperation in development, innovation and education, following discussions between foreign ministers Gideon Moshe Sa’ar and Olivier Nduhungirehe;

6 Jul 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzania and China are in talks to establish a 10-day visa-free transit agreement for eligible travellers to boost travel and bilateral relations;

5 Jul 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. The World Bank imposes strict new conditions on Kenya in exchange for securing upcoming development loans, requiring significant policy alignments from the National Treasury led by cabinet secretary John Mbadi;

5 Jul 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The CitizenTanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) issues a call for peace while increasing security measures along the country’s borders, highlighting the military’s efforts to maintain national stability amidst heightened border awareness;

4 Jul 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Defence chief of staff Field Marshal Berhanu Jula warns that the security situation in the Red Sea and Horn of Africa has become more complex and concerning;

2 Jul 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Ethiopia’s military claims it killed 116 alleged “extremists” during an operation in Dega Damot in the Amhara Region, wounded two bodyguards of Fano leader Zenabu Lengerew and seized weapons and military equipment;

2 Jul 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) Reuters. Kenyan activists file a new court case seeking to halt the construction and expansion of luxury lodges in the Maasai Mara National Reserve until 2032, arguing that existing developments were approved illegally and threaten wildlife migration routes and Maasai livelihoods;

2 Jul 2026 Antananarivo (Madagascar) L’ExpressGroup of Free Zone Companies and Partners (GEFP) warns that recent tax measures introduced under finance laws since 2023, which it says are linked to commitments made to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), are undermining the country’s free zone regime, creating regulatory uncertainty and threatening investment and more than 200,000 jobs;

2 Jul 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzania and the United States (US) sign a five-year health partnership worth TSh8 trillion ($3.1 billion) to strengthen the country’s health system through investments in healthcare services and capacity building;

2 Jul 2026 Asmara (Eritrea) Africa Confidential. The United States (US) is pursuing diplomatic engagement with Eritrea as tensions rise in the Horn of Africa, particularly around the Tigray Region and wider Red Sea competition. Eritrea’s strategic positioning, alongside rival Gulf State interests from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is contributing to growing regional uncertainty and the risk of renewed conflict;

2 Jul 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) AP News. United Nations (UN) experts report that all parties involved in eastern DRC’s conflict, including the Congolese army, M23 rebels and Rwanda, have violated the December peace agreement and committed abuses;
