2 Sep 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Water and energy minister, Habtamu Eteffa, clarifies that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam was fully financed by Ethiopia’s government and people, rejecting United States (US) President Donald Trump’s claims that the US funded the project;

2 Sep 2025 Kampala (Uganda) The East African. Uganda reaffirms its agreement with the United States (US) to accept migrants, despite significant public opposition, amid broader regional tensions and migration control measures across East Africa;

2 Sep 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) Kigali Today. At the African Forum on Agriculture and Food in Dakar, President Paul Kagame emphasises that Africa should stop relying on other parts of the world and take responsibility for its own development;

1 Sep 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily NationAgriculture and Food Authority data shows Belgium overtook the United States (US) as Kenya’s largest export market for coffee in the 2023/2024 crop season;

Opposition party Civic United Front makes the push for a new constitution the focus of its campaign for the 2025 elections, as highlighted during the handover of presidential nomination forms to its candidate Gombo Samandito Gombo and running mate Husna Mohamed Abdalla by the Independent National Electoral Commission;

1 Sep 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. The political pressure group Patriotic League of Uganda claims to have won 60% of the ruling party National Resistance Movement internal elections;

1 Sep 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Regional and international stakeholders meet in Dar es Salaam today to discuss strategies to combat illegal fishing, which costs Tanzania an estimated $142.8m annually;

31 Aug 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) Garowe Online. Somalia and Djibouti sign a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) to institutionalise regular political consultations and strengthen bilateral cooperation on regional security, economic development and shared diplomatic goals;

31 Aug 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. Ireland-headquartered Edge Network Services, a unit of United States-headquartered Meta, acquires a stake in Safaricom’s Daraja Fibre Optic Cable Project that aims to enhance internet connectivity;

29 Aug 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Africa News. United States (US)-based mining startup KoBold Metals, backed by Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, grants seven permits to explore lithium in the DRC’s Manono Region;

29 Aug 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Reuters. The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics announces that annual inflation rose to 4.5% in August from 4.1% in July, driven mainly by higher food and transport prices, while monthly inflation was 0.3%;

28 Aug 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) APA News. Mozambique and Rwanda sign a status of forces agreement extending Rwanda’s military mission in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province;

28 Aug 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. The federal government makes administrative changes in the Raya area (Tigray Region), heightening tensions between the Tigray People’s Liberation Front and the federal government;

28 Aug 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. Authorities exhume five more bodies in Kwa Bi Nzaro (Kilifi County) as part of an ongoing investigation into a suspected cult linked to the Shakahola tragedy, where over 400 bodies were previously found;

28 Aug 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Ruling National Resistance Movement unveils a largely new central executive committee, with President Yoweri Museveni and his deputy Moses Kigongo as the only returning members;

28 Aug 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) Reuters. Rwanda receives its first group of migrants deported from the United States in mid-August under a new agreement allowing up to 250 people to be transferred;
