2 Jun 2026 Arusha (Tanzania) The East African. East African Community (EAC) health ministers hold an extraordinary virtual meeting to coordinate regional response measures against the ongoing Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda;

2 Jun 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) Reuters. The United States (US) imposes sanctions on key commanders of the M23 rebel group and the Forces démocratiques de libération du Rwanda (FDLR) militia, accusing them of driving the ongoing violent conflict in eastern DRC;

2 Jun 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) The Citizen. A Kenyan court extends an order blocking the construction of a United States (US)-backed, 50-bed Ebola quarantine facility at a domestic air force base following public protests in Nanyuki;

2 Jun 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Addis Standard. Residents in East Arsi Zone (Oromia Region) report that armed attacks over the weekend have left dozens of civilians dead and forced hundreds to flee into nearby forests;

2 Jun 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Finance minister Khamis Mussa Omar presents the ministry’s plan and budget priorities to parliament, highlighting that debt servicing costs have hit a significant milestone of TSh 15.1 trillion ($5.76 billion) and is a key focus area;

2 Jun 2026 Kigali (Rwanda) Al JazeeraNetherlands-based Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) rejects Rwanda’s $134m compensation claim against the United Kingdom (UK) over their scrapped migrant deportation deal;

2 Jun 2026 Kigali (Rwanda) Reuters. President Paul Kagame and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, inaugurate a new memorial in central Paris (France) to honour the victims of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda;

1 Jun 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) MonitorCoalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) awards United States-headquartered Moderna and other research groups $60m to accelerate the development of a vaccine targeting the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus;

1 Jun 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) BBC. Voting in parts of the Amhara and Oromia regions is suspended during the general election due to security concerns, while Tigray Region remains completely excluded from the poll;

1 Jun 2026 Kisumu (Kenya) Daily Nation. Internal power struggles within the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are exposed after several senior party figures, including Millie Odhiambo and Junet Mohammed, boycott a major weekend rally led by Oburu Oginga;

1 Jun 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. President Samia Suluhu Hassan is scheduled to embark on a historic three-day official visit to Russia, highlighting the country’s evolving foreign policy strategy;

1 Jun 2026 Antananarivo (Madagascar) L’ExpressCommission électorale nationale indépendante (CENI) (independent national electoral commission) appeals to international partners for financial support to implement electoral reforms and ensure the successful organisation of upcoming elections, arguing that meaningful reforms require adequate funding;

31 May 2026 Djibouti (Djibouti) Capital. The Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority is seeking financing from Ethiopian Investment Holdings to construct a massive oil storage depot at the new Damerjog Liquid Bulk Port;

31 May 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The CitizenRegistrar of Political Parties issues a new warning to opposition party, Chadema, for making “scandalous and inciteful” remarks that criticised the government’s handling of the 2025 general election, renewing tensions between the two organisations;

30 May 2026 Djibouti (Djibouti) East Leigh Voice. The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) warns that migrant transits through Djibouti toward the Gulf have risen sharply, driven by regional conflict, economic pressures, and organised smuggling networks;

29 May 2026 Kinshasa (DRC) La Prosperite. The World Health Organisation (WHO) calls for an immediate ceasefire in eastern DRC to allow health workers to contain the rapidly spreading Ebola outbreak, which has also spread into Uganda;

28 May 2026 Antananarivo (Madagascar) The NamibianHaute Cour Constitutionnelle (HCC) (high constitutional court) rejects an opposition lawmaker’s attempt to remove transitional president Michael Randrianirina, ruling that the treason case did not meet the constitutional requirements for ousting a head of state;

28 May 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Militants reportedly attack a passenger bus travelling in Gohatsion (Oromia Region), resulting in the immediate deaths of 12 passengers;

28 May 2026 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. The opposition party Amhara Fano National Movement announces extensive road closures across the Amhara Region in response to a major federal military offensive launched ahead of the 1 June general election;

28 May 2026 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. The United States (US) commits Sh1.7 billion ($12.98m) to support Kenya’s preparedness against Ebola;

28 May 2026 Antananarivo (Madagascar) L’Express. Madagascar and Russia are set to sign an agreement establishing a common economic zone to facilitate trade, capital flows and technology transfers, while also discussing partnerships to increase Malagasy fuel storage and energy capacity;

28 May 2026 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. The African Development Bank (AfDB) projects that Tanzania’s economy will grow by 5.4%, despite facing global geopolitical risks;
