5 Sep 2022 Nairobi (Kenya) BBC. Supreme Court upholds deputy President William Ruto’s victory in the 9 August election, with a unanimous judgement that leaves no doubt that he defeated his main rival, Raila Odinga, in a free and fair contest;

5 Sep 2022 Da es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. The Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) files a case with the High Court opposing the introduction of a new levy on electronic money transfers;

5 Sep 2022 Kampala (Uganda) Observer.ug. Parliament passes an array of bills including an Anti-Money Laundering Amendment Bill and the Cooperative Societies Amendment Bill targeting terrorism financing;

5 Sep 2022 London (United Kingdom) Financial Times. A United Kingdom (UK) high court examine the legality of the UK government’s policy to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda, with the claimants alleging that they could be exposed to human rights breaches in Rwanda;

4 Sep 2022 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily NationSupreme Court on 5 September is set to rule on the outcome of the nation’s 9 August presidential battle after defeated candidate Raila Odinga filed a legal challenge over the results;

3 Sep 2022 Arusha (Tanzania) The East African. The East African Community standby force, set to deploy into eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, is still negotiating mandating agreements and the rules of engagement, delaying the deployment;

2 Sep 2022 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) France24. United States dispatches an envoy to Ethiopia in the hope of ending renewed fighting in Tigray, while condemning Eritrea for its involvement;

1 Sep 2022 Djibouti City (Djibouti) Sudan Tribune. A United Nations chartered ship carrying wheat from Ukraine to be distributed to drought-stricken countries in the Horn of Africa arrives at the Port of Djibouti;

1 Sep 2022 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Reuters. A Tigrayan military spokesperson says allied Ethiopian and Eritrean government troops attacked Tigrayan forces in Tigray as the latest flare-up in the conflict entered its second week;

1 Sep 2022 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily NationCentral Bank of Kenya says Kenya’s exports to other African countries rose 25% year-on-year in the first half of 2022 amid disruption caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict in global markets;

1 Sep 2022 Kigali (Rwanda) The East AfricanRwanda and Uganda officially resume diplomatic talks, a significant step towards reviving relations between the two countries that were at loggerheads for almost three years until the beginning of this year;

1 Sep 2022 Kampala (Uganda) Mining Weekly. Acting director at the finance ministry Moses Kaggwa says Uganda has scrapped a 5% export levy on refined gold that led to a slump in shipments overseas;
