9 Dec 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Reuters. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reports that the DRC is experiencing its worst cholera outbreak in 25 years, with 64,427 reported cases and 1,888 deaths since January, including 340 child fatalities in 17 of its 26 provinces;

9 Dec 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. National Electoral Board sets the seventh general election date as 1 June 2026, with candidate registration from 9 January to 8 February and voter registration from 14 February to 16 March;

9 Dec 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. Central Bank of Kenya lowers its benchmark lending rate by 25 basis points to 9% to stimulate lending and support economic growth;

9 Dec 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Planning and investment minister Kitila Mkumbo says Tanzania aims to save over TSh 2.8 trillion ($1.2 billion) annually by boosting local production;

9 Dec 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. The Electoral Commission (EC) cancels the nomination of Mathias Walukaga, the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate for the Busiro East parliamentary seat, due to him lacking the minimum academic qualifications;

9 Dec 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Reuters. President Felix Tshisekedi accuses Rwanda of violating the United States-brokered peace deal after Rwanda-backed M23 rebels captured Luvungi and sparked deadly clashes near Sange in South Kivu Province, killing as many as 36 people;

8 Dec 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily NationIndependent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson, Erastus Edung Ethekon, highlights concerns over declining voter turnout and youth participation in elections, with turnout dropping from 78.9% in 2017 to 64.4% in 2022;

8 Dec 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Reuters. Prime minister Mwigulu Nchemba urges citizens to stay home on 9 December, ahead of planned protests against the violent suppression of anti-government demonstrations following the October elections;

8 Dec 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Candidates and parties are using coffee seedlings, coffee-farming support, and promises of better prices to win rural votes in the 2026 general elections, especially in major coffee-growing regions;

7 Dec 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Opposition candidates Robert Kyagulanyi (also known as Bobi Wine) alleges that security forces physically assaulted him, his aides and supporters while campaigning in Gulu (Northern Region);

6 Dec 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) Reuters. United States and Rwanda sign a five-year, $228m health-sector deal, the second under the US administration’s ‘America First Global Health Strategy’, aimed at strengthening Rwanda’s health system and promoting self-reliance;

6 Dec 2025 Bujumbura (Burundi) ChimpReports. Foreign minister Édouard Bizimana reports that M23 rebels in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) fired bombs into Burundi’s territory, hitting Chibitoke near the DRC border;

6 Dec 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The CitizenTanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and Franceheadquartered Africa Global Logistics (AGL) sign an agreement to design and construct three new berths at the planned Bagamoyo Port;

6 Dec 2025 Asmara (Eritrea) Ministry of External Affairs Government of India. The third round of India–Eritrea Foreign Office Consultations take place in Asmara, with delegations discussing the full spectrum of bilateral relations, including political, economic, health, education, renewable energy, culture, and people-to-people ties;

4 Dec 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Africanews. President Félix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame, officially sign a United States (US) brokered agreement aimed at ending the long-running conflict in eastern DRC, with the US also signing bilateral accords with both countries to expand US access to critical minerals;

4 Dec 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Africanews. Kenya and the United States (US) sign a five-year $2.5 billion health agreement;

4 Dec 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) CNN. United States (US) Department of State confirms it is reviewing its relationship with Tanzania citing ongoing repression of religious freedom and free speech, the presence of persistent obstacles to US investment, and disturbing violence against civilians in the days leading up to and following the October presidential election;

4 Dec 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) Sudanspost. The African Development Bank approves $214.47m to fund phase two of the South SudanEthiopiaDjibouti transport corridor, with $29.71m allocated to Djibouti to upgrade key roads linking the interior to its strategic ports and improve 15km of feeder roads;
