14 May 2025 Bujumbura (Burundi) Burundi Times. Media regulatory body National Communication Council issues a directive emphasising equitable media coverage for all political actors during the official campaign period from 17 May to 2 June ahead of legislative and district elections scheduled for 5 June;

14 May 2025 13 May 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Opposition Forum for Democratic Change and National Unity Platform criticise a proposed new law that would require political parties to engage in structured dialogue to foster collaboration and unity, claiming the law could suppress dissent and give the ruling party an advantage;

13 May 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. House of Peoples’ Representatives ratifies Ethiopia’s membership in the Africa Finance Corporation, as well as an €11.5m ($12.5 m) and $50m loan agreement for environmental and education programmes respectively, and an air transport agreement with Austria;

13 May 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Prime minister Kassim Majaliwa promotes Tanzania’s economic potential at the 2025 Africa CEO Forum in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire), aiming to attract international investors and solidify the country’s position as one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies;

13 May 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) DW. Police arrest opposition Chadema mainland deputy secretary general Amani Golugwa at Julius Nyerere International Airport while he was attempting to travel to Brussels (Belgium) to attend a political conference;

13 May 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Bank of Uganda (central bank) Monetary Policy Committee keeps the central bank rate steady at 9.75% citing local and global risks, alongside concerns about rising inflation;

12 May 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Addis Standard. Opposition parties All Ethiopia Unity Party (AEUP), Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party (EPRP), Enat Party and Amhara Ghionians Movement jointly call for urgent political and security reforms ahead of the 2026 national election, warning that the current climate of violence, repression, and lack of transparency threatens the vote’s credibility;

12 May 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Prime minister Kassim Majaliwa represents President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the Africa CEO Forum in Côte d’Ivoire;

12 May 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Natural resources and tourism ministry deputy permanent secretary Benedict Wakulyamba praises the visit of delegates from the 14th Lusaka Governing Council to the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, highlighting the importance of cross-border cooperation and increased government efforts to protect wildlife;

8 May 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Addis Standard. Trade and regional integration ministry announces a new round of fuel price increases, following a hike in March, with gasoline retail prices set at 122.53 birr ($2.17) per litre and white diesel and kerosene priced at 116.49 birr ($2.06) per litre, underscoring persistent inflationary pressure in Ethiopia’s fuel market;
