On August 9, 2022, Kenyans will cast their ballots for a new president, members of parliament, and members of the Kenyan senate. The race is hotting up with the two lead contenders, Hon Raila Odinga, former prime minister and incumbent deputy president, Hon William Ruto, vying for the top job.

Kenyan elections have always tended to be dramatic, but the country has nevertheless remained a pole of stability and democracy in the region. This year’s elections will be tightly fought, and are taking place against a backdrop of international turmoil, economic difficulty and regional tensions.

Hosted by the Royal Africa Society in partnership with GBS Africa and Eastern Africa Association, this event will provide insights to some of the factors that will impact the outcome of the elections, and how this will affect Kenya’s future and the prospects of the region.
