26 Mar 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Reuters. Kenya Airways says it generated an operating profit of $80.83m in 2023, its first operating profit since 2017;

26 Mar 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Mineral products from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will now be certified at a special centre in Tanzania as the two countries seek to raise the volume of goods passing through the Dar es Salaam port and curb smuggling;

25 Mar 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) The Herald. DRC surpasses Peru as the world’s second-largest copper producer;

25 Mar 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Anadolu Agency.  A bomb explosion kills three people in Mandera town, with authorities saying they suspect it was carried out by al-Shabaab;

25 Mar 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Business Daily. Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA) says it will require at least KSh 11 billion ($83.33m) as the initial cost of developing Kenya’s first nuclear research reactor;

25 Mar 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) IPP Media. Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) gives employees stationed at the port of Dar es Salaam five days to voluntarily join Emirati multinational logistics company DP World, or remain with the parastatal and be reallocated to other ports across the country;

25 Mar 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The East African. Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) reveals that Kenya has extended the commissioning of the 500-km electricity transmission line with Tanzania, built at a cost of $309.2m, to April at the earliest from an earlier target of December last year;

25 Mar 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The East African. Tanzania and Burundi have begun formal talks on the technical aspects of building a standard railway gauge railway (SGR) link after securing funding of $91.7m from the African Development Bank (AfDB);

24 Mar 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) AFP. Prime minister Abiy Ahmed announces plans to allow foreign nationals to buy real estate in a bid to open the market up;

24 Mar 2024 Kagera (Tanzania) The East African. Tanzania and Rwanda open a new border post as the two countries deepen trade ties;

23 Mar 2024 Asmara (Eritrea) Tefsa News. President Isaias Afwerki extends condolences to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and the victims of the recent terror attack in Moscow (Russia);

23 Mar 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Reuters. United States-headquartered Moody’s upgrades Tanzania’s credit rating from B2 to B1 and changes its outlook from positive to stable;

22 Mar 2024 Luanda (Angola) New Times. Rwanda’s foreign minister, Vincent Biruta, and his Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) counterpart, Christophe Lutundula, meet in Angola for consultations on security and peace in eastern DRC;

22 Mar 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) The East African. Prime cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi says the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) that served in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) last year was a successful mission despite the DRC government asking the mission to leave because it did not successfully target the M23 rebel group;

22 Mar 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) The East African. United States (US) police arrest Rwandan-born Eric Nshimiye on charges of engaging in a three-decade long scheme to conceal his involvement in the 1994 genocide and enter the US as a refugee to gain citizenship;

22 Mar 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) IMF. International Monetary Fund (IMF) and authorities reach a staff-level agreement on the reviews of Rwanda’s policy coordination instrument and arrangement under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) and Stand-by Credit Facility;

22 Mar 2024 Arusha (Tanzania) The Citizen. East African Community (EAC) signs a deal with United Kingdom-based energy project profiler EnergyNet Limited to bolster the region’s energy sector;

22 Mar 2024 Kampala (Uganda) AFP. President Yoweri Museveni promotes his son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to the position of chief of the defence forces;

21 Mar 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) Xinhua. African Development Bank (AfDB) pledges $80m to support Burundi’s agricultural sector;

21 Mar 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Africanews. Government confirms that an International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff mission is in the country as government seeks a loan programme;

20 Mar 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Mining Weekly. Canada-headquartered Barrick Gold CEO Mark Bristow says during a visit to DRC that the company is seeking new opportunities in gold and copper in partnership with the DRC government;

20 Mar 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Biz Community. M-Pesa Safaricom signs an agreement with South Africa-headquartered digital payment network Onafriq to streamline remittance flows into Ethiopia;

20 Mar 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Business Daily. KCB Group says it will sell its subsidiary, National Bank of Kenya, to Nigeria-headquartered Access Group, helping the Nigerian bank expand its footprint in Kenya;

20 Mar 2024 Arusha (Tanzania) The China Global South Project. Government awards China’s China Railway Construction Engineering Group a $113m contract to build a new soccer stadium in Arusha, which will be used for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals and will be paid for entirely by the Tanzanian government;
