10 Oct 2022 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Bloomberg. Council of Ministers draft shows Ethiopia plans to allow overseas lenders to acquire up to 30% in its commercial banks, the latest step by the government to encourage investment;

10 Oct 2022 Antananarivo (Madagascar) L’Express. Madagascar-based but United States-financed Madagascar Oil strikes a deal to sell its crude oil to local industry, its first domestic sales agreement replacing more expensive, imported hydrocarbons;

7 Oct 2022 Bujumbura (Burundi) The EastAfrican. Bank of the Republic of Burundi (central bank) lifts a ban it imposed in February 2020 on foreign exchange bureaus with the aim of weeding out operators flouting official exchange rates;

7 Oct 2022 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) UN. United Nations members vote to extend an UN-mandated monitoring mission for the war in Ethiopia where investigators have found “reasonable grounds to believe” that parties to the conflict have committed serious rights violations;

7 Oct 2022 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Daily Nation. Kenya-headquartered telecoms giant Safaricom announces it has signed a deal to provide a mobile money transfer service in Ethiopia, making it the first private telecoms operator in Africa‘s second most populous country;

6 Oct 2022 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. Activists and agriculture lobby groups urge government to reverse its decision to lift a long-standing ban on genetically modified crops over food security concerns as the country struggles with a crippling drought;

6 Oct 2022 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzania and the semi-autonomous Zanzibar island sign agreements with Qatar to strengthen trade and investment relations and revitalise bilateral ties;

5 Oct 2022 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Reuters. Prime minister Abiy Ahmed’s national security adviser Redwan Hussein says federal government has accepted an invitation by the African Union to participate in peace talks aimed at ending a two-year conflict with rival Tigray forces;

5 Oct 2022 Nairobi (Kenya) Bloomberg. India’s biggest cookie manufacturer Britannia Industries clinches a deal for operations in Kenya as part its plan to expand in Africa;

5 Oct 2022 Kampala (Uganda) Kampala Sun. President Yoweri Museveni issues a public apology to Kenya, asking forgiveness for tweets by his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba about Uganda invading Kenya.
